Integrated Enabling Services (IES) is working diligently
to make significant and strategic shifts in how services
are considered and funded. There is a deliberate movement
toward funding what is core and essential (risk-based decisions
on what serves 50% or more of the Sandia population) and
toward a combination of customer-funded or customer plus
IES funding for services that are more specialized. These
changes are initiated in FY08 and will continue to be evaluated
and evolve in subsequent years. IES is making every attempt
to be proactive, strategic, and attentive to mission needs
while thoughtfully reducing or eliminating services where
risk is low or the services have been customized. This
creates dollars without increasing the IES tax on direct
funds, so that new services that Sandia needs now or anticipates
needing in the future can be designed, developed, and implemented.
You will see some significant changes in the Technical
Library. Most of the Library's customer-facing services
will be affected in some way. Many services will be broken
while they are re-tooled, re-engineered, and redesigned
for increased usability, integration of technology to allow
enhanced self-service, and to transform the Library, with
other corporate programs such as the Recorded Information
Management program, into a virtual enterprise information
management system.
As a result, many things will be inconvenient and frustrating
in the short term and we do ask for your patience and understanding.
You will be kept informed via the Library's web pages to
guide you to what is "under construction" and
what is still available.
Announcements of major changes will be made as they are
scheduled and implemented. One change that will be planned
and implemented relatively soon is a Library Board, composed
of line presentation. This Board will provide input into
the electronic content that the Library acquires. Look
for announcements and invitations to participate in this
Board later in the first quarter of FY08.
